The beginning. Cynthia opened Dance Your Ancestors in May 2022, after more than twenty years of dancing, living and researching in Peru. It was built for Peruvians in the diaspora who felt the pull toward home but had nowhere nearby to answer it.
The first cohort trained online for four months, then travelled to El Carmen, Chincha, where they were welcomed into the Centro Cultural Amador Ballumbrosio and danced Festejo in the community that shaped Cynthia's own understanding of the form. What began as one small group became the blueprint for every round that followed.
